Biography
Cecilia Machado is a graduate student in the Department of Economics at
Columbia University. She has a M.Sc. in Economics from PUC-Rio, Brazil,
and expects to receive her PhD degree in Columbia in May 2010. Her
areas of interest include applied econometrics and labor economics,
with emphasis on fertility and family economics. In applied
econometrics, Cecilia studies how to construct non-parametric bounds on
the average treatment effect when an instrument is available. In labor
economics, she is interested in gender differences in the labor market,
and family formation and dissolution. In her current work, Cecilia
examines the effects that infertility insurance mandates have on labor
market selection and its indirect effect on the female wage
distribution.
