David B. Harris

David Harris is 40 years old, married, and the father of two children. He received his B.A. in sociology from Wesleyan University in 1994, his M.S. Ed. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the Bank Street College of Education in 1996, and his Ph.D. in Social Welfare from Columbia University, where his dissertation focused on the child tax credit. Mr. Harris is the President of Children’s Research and Education Institute, a non- profit child advocacy organization that educates the public on the effect of politics and policies on children and families. He is vice-President of KidsPac, a political action committee dedicated to sound public policies for children and families. He is a partner at Kids Project, a lobbying organization on kids issues. Mr. Harris has appeared at conferences, on the network news, on the radio, and in major national papers. Mr. Harris served on Manhattan Community Board 7, an appointive city office. In that capacity, he served as co-chair of the Strategy and Budget and Health and Human Services committees, and was elected as second vice-chair. CB7 represents the over 200,000 people of the Upper West Side of Manhattan. He also served on the Manhattan Public Health Network. Mr. Harris has been an early childhood educator, teaching in both public and independent schools in New York City. He has received the Public Advocacy Award from the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, in recognition of “outstanding and fundamental contributions to the social understanding of trauma.”
