Biography
Jennifer Cantrell is a doctoral student
in the Department of Sociomedical Sciences from the Mailman School of
Public Health and also works as a Scientific Consultant for New York
University. Her research interests include behavioral, social,
cultural and policy factors affecting the health of individuals and
communities. She has worked primarily in the areas of tobacco
control and HIV/AIDS to understand the social context of health risk
behaviors and the impact of public health policy on disadvantaged populations,
including the homeless, mentally ill and low-income groups. Ms.
Cantrell’s dissertation research focuses on the intersection of community
and individual factors that shape smoking behaviors and disparities
in tobacco use. She has also worked in immigrant communities to improve
health systems and ensure quality care for minorities. Ms. Cantrell
currently holds a Behavioral Science Training Fellowship from the National
Development and Research Institutes, Inc. and has published several
articles and presented nationally on her public health work.
