M.K. Babcock

Associate Director of Administration & Finance

Biography

M.K. Babcock has worked with the CPRC for nine years -- first as its program coordinator, then as its program manager, and now as its associate director for administration and finance. M.K.’s current role is to supervise CPRC administrative staff in carrying out programs and events, set administrative protocols, and oversee all finances for the CPRC and its closely affiliated research projects, such as the New York City Longitudinal Study of Wellbeing. Prior to coming to the CPRC, she worked with the Columbia University IRB, learning about federal regulations and Columbia University’s compliance systems, and with the Columbia University Press, where she generated metadata for an internet search tool of poems in the public domain. She also spent seven months teaching English in France, and while she learned to speak French while there, to her great chagrin, she can’t speak it anymore. M.K. holds a B.A. in English with a minor in Theology from the University of Scranton, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing, focusing on poetry, from Syracuse University. Her poems have been published in The Tampa Review, Fourteen Hills: The SFSU Review, So to Speak, Bird Dog Magazine, and Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review.  When not working for the CPRC or taking care of her young son, she is working on-and-off on a book-length sequence of poems about badly behaved puppets.
