Graduate Student, Sociomedical Sciences
Nora Kenworthy is a PhD student in Columbia University’s Sociomedical Sciences program, and an NIH trainee in Gender, Sexuality and Health. Nora has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Williams College, and prior to attending Columbia worked in South Africa for an organization providing psychosocial support for the clinic-based prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV. She plans to conduct her dissertation research in Lesotho, examining how the rapid scale-up of HIV treatment programs is altering modes of citizenship, patienthood and belonging at clinic and community levels. She has also conducted research in and around New York City, focusing on disenfranchised populations and their interactions with the health care system. Most recently she has been working with researchers in an Eastern state psychiatric system to better understand the treatment and recuperation of undocumented immigrants residing within in-patient care.
