Biography
Ofira Schwartz-Soicher is a
second year PhD student at Columbia University School of Social Work,
concentrating in policy analysis. Her broad research interests include
maternal and child health, child and family policy, urban poverty and
health disparities among low-income populations. Her particular interest
is in disentangling the effects of neighborhoods on the obesity epidemic.
She has been working with Profs. Garfinkel and Mincy, and Dr. Geller
on the effects of incarceration on family resources and child wellbeing
using the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing study. Immediately before
entering Columbia University, she worked for the federally-funded study
“Effects of Child Health on Family Resources” at the Robert Wood
Johnson Medical School Department of Pediatrics. Prior to that, she
worked at the Center for Research on Child Wellbeing at Princeton University.
She holds an MBA from Rider University and B.Sc. in nutrition from the
Hebrew University.
