Biography
R. Gabriela Barajas is a doctoral
student in Developmental Psychology and a graduate research fellow at
the National Center for Children and Families. Her research interests
are motivated by improving the health and well-being of underserved
populations. She is particularly interested in the needs of Latino
families in the U.S., specifically, health communication among immigrant
Latino families, health risk perceptions of adolescents, and the mental
health and academic achievement of children in "at risk" environments.
Her current doctoral research examines the influence of family dynamics
and peer substance use on U.S. and foreign born Latino adolescents.
Ms. Barajas earned her B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford University
(2001) and her M.A. in Developmental Psychology at Teachers College
(2005).
