Biography
Sanyukta Mathur is currently pursuing a Doctor of Public Health degree in Sociomedical Sciences at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University. Her research interests include adolescent reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, youth livelihoods and social transitions. Ms. Mathur is a Rosenfield scholar in Sexual and Reproductive Health. Ms. Mathur is currently crafting her dissertation research project to explore the intersection of pregnancy desires and HIV risk among young people in rural Uganda, using both quantitative longitudinal analysis and qualitative assessment. Prior to joining Columbia University, Ms. Mathur worked with the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) as a Public Health Specialist. At ICRW, she led intervention and policy-oriented research projects on various aspects of youth transitions to adulthood, particularly in South Asia and East Africa. She received her Masters of Health Science degree from Johns Hopkins University in International Health, Disease Control and Prevention, and her undergraduate degree is from the University of Maryland at College Park in Psychology and Women’s Studies.
