Van Tran

Assistant Professor of Sociology


Professor Tran is Assistant Professor of Sociology. Tran’s research focuses on post-1965 immigrants and their children, New York City neighborhoods, gentrification and housing inequality, and ethnoracial disparities in health outcomes. His current projects include the impact of neighborhood poverty on social mobility among the immigrant second generation, the consequences of neighborhood gentrification along Amsterdam Avenue, and neighborhood inequality in healthcare resources. At Columbia, he offers courses on immigration, urban poverty, and research methods. He also organizes the Race, Ethnicity and Migration (REM) workshop, an interdisciplinary forum for faculty and graduate students.
