This talk will present new findings from the just-completed fourth wave of data from the Resilience in Survivors of Katrina (RISK) Project, a longitudinal study of 1,019 young, predominantly female and African American community college students who were surveyed a year before Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and then four times afterward. This study combines multiple survey waves, multiple in-depth interview waves, and neighborhood mobility and contextual data. The immediate and long-term (12-14 years after) effects of the Katrina disaster on physical and mental health, economic and social functioning, and neighborhood attainment are discussed.
